South African Embassy to serve children’s homes on Mandela Day

In honour of Mandela Day on 18 July, the South African Embassy in Belgium will be of service to three Children’s Home in Brussels. In the spirit of voluntarism, which has since become synonymous with Mandela Day, Embassy staff and their spouses will do needle work, painting, cleaning of toys and reorganize garden sheds.

Together with the UN Regional Information Centre, the Embassy will also host the screening of the movie, Searching for Sugar Man, on this special day, a film about hope and inspiration, which has become a phenomenon associated with Nelson Mandela’s legacy.

Since Nelson Mandela International Day was first introduced in 2008, it has become an inspiration for people across the globe to give 67 minutes of their time to be of service to humanity, and the South African Embassy in Belgium is proud to be part of this legacy of peace, goodwill and charitable deeds.
