Deputy Minister of Finance Nhlanhla Nene, accompanied by Ambassador Mxolisi Nkosi held crucial bilateral discussions with the European Commission (EC) Development Commissioner, Andris Piebalgs on 3 December 2013. These talks took place on the sidelines of the Regional Programming Seminar for the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) for East, Southern Africa, and the Indian Ocean Islands, held on 3-5 December 2013 in Brussels.
During these bilateral discussions, the EC confirmed that South Africa will continue to receive development assistance from the EU, and that a proposal in this regard for the 2014-2020 multi-annual financial period has been tabled for approval.
Minister Nene welcomed this development and expressed his deepest appreciation for the EU’s continued engagement in South Africa, which, in his words “will help contribute to the achievement of its developmental goals within the framework of the country’s National Development Plan (NDP)”.
